"New Education" School Learning System

I always found an interest in technology and how it can be applied in the classroom.  For my project I figured since there were no limitations on what our product could be, I decided to dream up a system of education that would incorporate more technology in modern-day high schools.  I think that tablet devices are a great educational tool, and is where my idea all started.
My initial thought was to come up with a software application, or "app", that would be the best at managing the life of a high school student.  With tablets like the apple Ipad already in existence, the platform is available, but to include all of the features I want in my product, I believe that a new piece of hardware is essential.  For one, an iPads are way too expensive to provide for an entire student body for most school districts.  Secondly, most tablets are equipped with other applications that would be distracting for students and ultimately hinder their progress in school.
This "NooTablet" as I will name it for now, would be personal to each student and could aid in the following:  Help organize students with their schedule and assignments, including due dates + reminders. A way for students to keep up with their grades which could be viewed in a spreadsheet.  A word-processor would be included for note taking and everyday usage. There are many other features including interactive learning schemes, powerpoint creation, and eTextbooks I would include as well. AND MORE!

  3. I agree with everyone else that this is a great idea. Not only are students distracted in high school more than ever these days because of cell phones, but they are also falling behind because of organization. Your tablet will be essential for a student who "forgets" to hand in their homework because there will be no excuse because everything will be right there on their tablet. Great idea!

  5. I think this is a great idea because it helps students to focus on the actual goal, learning. Sometimes taking notes in a class is hard and unnecessary effort depending on the professor. These tablets and the technical foundation would carry the education to our technological level.

  6. I think this idea is fantastic. It could almost eliminate the backpack as we know it. Texts/textbooks could all be saved on the NooTablet, homework could be turned in and completed electronically, and studying could be done just by accessing notes on your NooTablet. The only problem would be if the NooTablet crashed.

  8. I really like how this idea is so simple and kind of a throwback, but also inivative. It seems like the most basic of palm pilots from way back in the day, yet this would be the ideal tool for a high school student. The lack of distracting apps would also be teacher friendly.

  9. Great idea. We have all this technology at our hands, we might as well use it for educational purposes. I, too, like the lack of distracting apps because we all remember using our calculator as a Gameboy back in high school. A tablet like this that is only used for the will be very beneficiary. One small question, would adobe be available for this tool? As we've seen with regard to the Ipad, there is no adobe, making some tasks more difficult. Other than that, this looks really good.

  10. This sounds really helpful for teachers too! It would make it easier to keep track of daily lesson plans, creating and grading assignments because they could do so right on their NooTablet from class. Also, with the use of the wireless internet, teachers and students could collaborate on classroom forums straight from their NooTablet. Sounds great for students who want to stay organized. Great work!

  11. This is a great idea to help students. With such a product, it will help students concentrate more on what they learn and study. It blows away students' extraordinary stuff to do. As the students can check out what they need to know and want to know anytime, anywhere.

  12. This is a great idea that can be taken really seriously! But what risk can you take with developing for more app markets like windows or android! please consider it, never settle with a market share when you can have the whole market!

  13. I am not trying to sound like a copycat, but I have to agree that your idea seems very feasible in terms of getting the schools to implement it and needs to be taken seriously. The only problem I have with it is will it hurt the more intimate and personal communication and social part about schools and education because people will be almost too connected to their tablet?

  14. Thank you to all who commented, especially those who question and leave suggestions. I think this idea is a good one, and it's more than just "project 1" for IST 195; I would love to see this project really take off. Again, thanks for your feedback, you've given me more ideas to work with!
